These are things I wanted to share that don’t seem to justify a blog post of their own. They are nice to look at, or interesting, or both.
See below for 36 photos.
Flowers 🙂
Siqi bought these at a shop on the Alibaba campus where he works and brought them back for the vase we keep in the dining room.
Green Tea restaurant
This is a restaurant in Wanda Plaza Yuhang, our local mall. In my experience, restaurants in China are way more decorated than restaurants in Singapore on average, and this is a perfect example.
Not a real roof. Not a real tree.I love the lanterns.I like the fact that there are booths.
Canal
Siqi and I went and parked somewhere near here in Yuhang when we visited the local post office branch to try to find out how to mail stuff cheaply to the US.
These are the buildings I saw from the window of my hotel room. This is the outside of the Merchant Marco Hotel where I stayed.
Grande Alimentari Italian restaurant
Hangzhou has less Western food than Singapore, but it has some.ham and cheese and melontortellinicalzone with rocket/tomato/cheese salad on top
Pokemon Blue
Siqi bought me a cheap handheld console that runs emulators for old games, and I started (re)playing Pokemon Blue.
I can hear this picture.I chose Charmander in the beginning. Now he’s all grown up!I love Pikachu. Pikachu is awesome.
Glass
This is the glass wall at a Cantonese restaurant in Wanda Plaza Yuhang. I took a bunch of photos because I think the texture is interesting.
Other
China has Dairy Queen. And in China, Dairy Queen has ice cream cakes that look like money boats.potato chips with the flavor “Japanese Creamy Herb Soup”This shop sells beef and ice cream. Like, yes, those both come from cows, but… really???The Cantonese restaurant in Wanda Plaza starts an hourglass timer when you order. Before the sand all falls down, they bring you your freshly cooked food. Also, they have lovely blue dishes. I bought a rice bowl with this same blue glaze on Taobao after we ate here. This is the first No Smoking sign I’ve noticed that includes a picture of a vaporizer as well as a cigarette. The sign is in the Cantonese restaurant.Whenever we go to the mall, we see delivery guys running around picking up food. Sometimes they decorate their helmets, like this Meituan guy did. I try to stay out of their way on escalators, because timing is everything to them.I grew up in a house that had a pink magnolia in the yard. Now I live somewhere completely on the other side of the earth, but there’s a pink magnolia next to my house again. (And also bamboo.)And also whatever this is.Xianyu is the second-hand marketplace app of China. I love it. I’ve bought dozens of things on Xianyu. I did not so much love this Xianyu shop that Siqi and I found in a mall in Hangzhou.LEDs have changed the world. This is a pharmacy counter where a robot arm fetches your prescription from a shelf in a special closet and then the medication rides a conveyor belt and drops from the ceiling down a spiral chute so that you can collect it. We live in the future. This guy is wearing a pink-and-green tiger-striped fleece jacket that says “Stable Mistletoe”. (?!?!)
